My name is Lisa Chapman and I am the founder of Dogmestix. I previously studied training and behaviour at The Centre Of Applied Pet Ethology (COAPE). After this, I then completed a foundation degree in Canine Behaviour and Training. This means I am not only qualified, but I have been continually assessed in my theoretical knowledge and my practical skills. I am a full member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (01311), and a registered training instructor with the Animal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC). I therefore must adhere to their high ethical standards and code of practice. I also regularly attend additional courses, workshops and seminars run by the worlds leaders in animal behaviour, so you can be confident that my methods are up to date and ethical. I am continuing my learning and now learning about more species, in my final year of a BSc in applied animal behaviour.
I work as a full time behaviour officer for a large UK charity and live with my own 2 rescue dogs. I currently offer limited appointments weekly for everything from house training your new dog or puppy, to behaviour problems such as aggression and separation issues.
I grew up in the times that if a dog was misbehaving, they should be verbally or physically punished. Now we have discovered so much more about dogs and what they can do, much more money has been invested in researching their behaviour. We now know that kind, fun ways of teaching our dogs are the most effective, and really do make training an enjoyable experience for all. These methods ensure that dogs feel safe and help them live without anxiety, which can be a root cause of severe problem behaviours. I have a diploma with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, and recognise that we all learn differently. So don't worry if a clicker isn't your cup of tea, we will adapt training to your ability so that you enjoy it too!
I am fully insured and trained in canine (and human) first aid!
